About Invisible Sound
• I want to tell you a little about what I’m trying to do. I feel that I’m different than most musicians (plenty of musicians have made it clear). I live in the mountains of Santa Cruz, close enough to S.F, San Jose, and Monterrey that I can sleep in my own bed after a show. I started when I was 10, in a band at 12 and in and out since with not much success, whatever success is. I didn’t get it. Now I’m over 50.Now I get it. Birds sing. That’s what they do. With or without an audience, appreciated or not, they sing. Van Gogh didn’t sell paintings. He was an artist. He didn’t stop just because he wasn’t “successful”. He painted, that’s what he did. I think I’m an artist. My songs are my paintings. It’s more important that my songs are heard than sold. Music isn’t a competition. Its not the fame, or the money. It’s for fun. It’s Art for arts sake. Of course, it would be good to pay back the money I borrowed to make my C.D. After that I plan to give 20% to Cancer research. After that is not a big concern. Maybe help other artists. Mainly I just want to be heard. People go to museums to see art, not so much to buy it, but to maybe feel what the artist feels. Is art bad if no one likes it? I don’t think so. I know of artists who do exceptional work, but I don’t care so much for their work. But how would I know if I didn’t take the time to see and hear it. What I’ve heard the most in my life is like “you can’t do that. It will never work. It’s just not done like that. It will never work. Nothing will ever come of it, quit wasting time. People don’t want to hear that”. Pretty frustrating. I’ve played bass for other people mostly who didn’t want any suggestions from me. Play it like on the record, or play it like I wrote it. I played bass for one guy for three years. When it came time to record his C.D.,I helped engineer (as bass players often do) but didn’t get to play bass on it. I quit, and recorded my own C.D. my way. I think it’s really diverse. I call it folk-rock with a psycho-billy twist, or something like that. I play solo, so I cant reproduce it live like on the album, but if you want to hear it like on the album, play the album at home and turn it up. I’m going to play it different every time. (I changed keys to make it easier for me to sing.) I just want my songs to be heard. I want to inspire and help other artists. I made 1000 c.d.’s for a total of $ 6000. That’s cheap. Any artist can do this, if I can. I’ve got a label called Invisible Sound Music. I’m working with 4 artists to get them going. They have all agreed to donate a percent to a cause (Second harvest food bank, Homeless shelter, veterans, and Cancer research.) I’m trying to help other people. I’d like to know what you think of my album, INVISIPHOBIA
